Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portuguese icon and former Manchester United star, has once again expressed concern over the state of his old club. Since his final appearance for United in early 2023, the Red Devils have struggled to regain stability. While current manager Rúben Amorim is attempting to rebuild, Ronaldo suggested it would take a “miracle” to turn things around — prompting a firm response from the coach.

Amorim acknowledged Ronaldo’s influence but urged everyone to look ahead, not behind.

“𝑯𝒆 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘𝒔 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒅 𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒂𝒚𝒔 𝒉𝒂𝒔 𝒂 𝒃𝒊𝒈 𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒂𝒄𝒕,” 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑼𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒃𝒐𝒔𝒔 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒅. “𝑾𝒆 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒄𝒖𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒇𝒖𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆. 𝑾𝒆’𝒗𝒆 𝒎𝒂𝒅𝒆 𝒎𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒌𝒆𝒔 𝒃𝒆𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒆, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒈𝒐𝒂𝒍 𝒏𝒐𝒘 𝒊𝒔 𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒑 𝒃𝒚 𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒑. 𝑳𝒐𝒐𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒃𝒂𝒄𝒌 𝒘𝒐𝒏’𝒕 𝒉𝒆𝒍𝒑 𝒖𝒔.”

He added that the squad’s structure has been reshaped and there is a long-term plan already in motion.

Ronaldo Still Connected to United’s Struggles

Currently shining for Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, Ronaldo continues to keep close attention on Manchester United’s fortunes. The club suffered its worst finish since the 1973–74 season and now sits eighth in the Premier League, picking up 17 points from 10 matches.

Ronaldo expressed his disappointment in a recent interview, telling Piers Morgan:

“𝑰𝒕’𝒔 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒃𝒊𝒈𝒈𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝒄𝒍𝒖𝒃𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒊𝒏 𝒎𝒚 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒕. 𝑩𝒖𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒅𝒐𝒏’𝒕 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒂 𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒖𝒄𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒓𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒏𝒐𝒘. 𝑴𝒊𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒍𝒆𝒔 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒐𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒃𝒍𝒆 — 𝒐𝒏𝒍𝒚 𝒊𝒏 𝑭𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒂.”

Despite his strong criticism, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner defended Amorim, recognizing that the issues run deeper than coaching alone.

Amorim, who took charge in November 2024, admits the squad is still undergoing major adjustments:

“𝑾𝒆 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒂𝒄𝒌 𝒘𝒆𝒍𝒍 𝒐𝒓 𝒅𝒆𝒇𝒆𝒏𝒅 𝒘𝒆𝒍𝒍 𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆𝒔 — 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒍𝒚 𝒆𝒏𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉. 𝑾𝒆 𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒅 𝑭𝒐𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒕 17 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒕𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒍𝒂𝒔𝒕 𝒈𝒂𝒎𝒆… 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒎𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆.”

Signs of Improvement Despite Challenges

Manchester United have shown an effort to recover from their disastrous previous campaign. They recently enjoyed three straight Premier League wins before drawing 2–2 with Nottingham Forest.

However, Amorim still hasn’t managed to secure back-to-back league victories since taking charge — a crucial hurdle the club must overcome to regain momentum.

The journey back to the top continues, but United insist they are no longer dwelling on past setbacks — and are determined to prove Ronaldo wrong about needing a miracle.
