Lionel Messi’s long pursuit of a league title in North America has finally come to a close. The Argentine legend delivered a stellar performance to guide Inter Miami to the first league championship in the club’s history. According to Messi, lifting this trophy was the team’s “top priority” for the season — and their unity made it possible.
The 38-year-old forward was honored as the Most Valuable Player in the MLS Cup final. Reflecting on the achievement, Messi said,
“𝑻𝒉𝒓𝒆𝒆 𝒚𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒔 𝒂𝒈𝒐, 𝑰 𝒄𝒉𝒐𝒔𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝑴𝑳𝑺, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒐𝒅𝒂𝒚 𝒘𝒆 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝑴𝑳𝑺 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒎𝒑𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔.”
He emphasized the collective effort behind the triumph, adding, “This season, winning the MLS Cup was one of our main goals. It’s been a long, demanding year with many matches — but the entire team gave everything. We’ve been waiting for this moment together, and it’s truly special.”
Miami’s Final Victory and Messi’s Historic Milestone
In the decisive match, Lionel played a direct role in two of Inter Miami’s three goals as they overcame Vancouver. One of the goals came from his precise cross that deflected off an opposing defender and ended up in the net. His influence throughout the game once again highlighted his unmatched competitiveness.
With this triumph, Messi secured the 47th trophy of his illustrious career, extending his record as the most decorated footballer in history.
Miami coach Javier Mascherano praised his captain’s remarkable mindset after the final, saying, “His impact over the last few games shows how much winning still means to him. He came here to lift trophies, and he’s proving it.”
