Vinícius Jr has moved to ease speculation over his future at Real Madrid, insisting there is no urgency surrounding ongoing contract renewal discussions. The Brazilian forward spoke after delivering a Man of the Match performance in Madrid’s emphatic 6–1 UEFA Champions League victory over AS Monaco at the Santiago Bernabéu.
With his current deal running until 2027, talks over an extension have been ongoing for some time, though no final agreement has been reached. Vinícius made it clear, however, that the lack of progress does not concern him.
“There’s a lot of talk about renewal, yes, but I still have time left,” he said.
“We’re very calm. I trust the president and he trusts me. We have a very good relationship and, when the time comes, we’ll sort things out. We’re in no rush.”
Vinícius Jr.Reaction to Xabi Alonso’s Dismissal
Beyond contract matters, Vinícius Jr was also asked about the dismissal of Xabi Alonso, who was let go shortly after Real Madrid’s 3–2 defeat to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final.
Keeping his response measured, the winger stressed that his focus remains on performing for the team.
“There’s nothing I can do. I can only give my all. I won’t always perform at my best technically, but I’ve always given everything for the team.”
Adapting His Game and Handling Criticism
Vinícius Jr went on to explain how he adjusts his role depending on what the team needs at any given moment—whether that means scoring, assisting, or tracking back defensively.
“When others are lacking goals, I try to assist; when I have to defend, I defend. Of course, I’m not the best defender on the team—there are other players for that.”
Vinícius Jr also addressed criticism head-on, acknowledging that scrutiny is part of playing at the Bernabéu.
“The press says what it wants, and the fans think and understand that they have to criticise me.”
Commitment to Real Madrid
Despite the constant attention and pressure, the Brazilian highlighted where Vinícius Jr finds motivation, particularly during challenging periods.
“The best way to improve is to come home and be welcomed at the Bernabéu by the best fans in the world.”
Vinícius Jr ended his comments with a message that will resonate strongly with Madrid supporters, reaffirming his desire to remain at the club for the long term.
“I want to stay here for a long time.”
