Shamsi Spins: Kings Beat Knight Riders in CPL Thriller

Kings’ Spinners Run Riot

St Lucia Kings secured a comfortable seven-wicket win over Trinbago Knight Riders in Tarouba, thanks to a remarkable bowling display by their spin trio—Tabraiz Shamsi, Roston Chase, and Khary Pierre. The spinners shared seven wickets to restrict TKR to just 109, setting up an easy chase for the Kings, who finished at 112 for 3.

“𝑺𝒉𝒂𝒎𝒔𝒊 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒖𝒏𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝒕𝒐𝒅𝒂𝒚. 𝑯𝒊𝒔 𝒘𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒈 ‘𝒖𝒏𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒄𝒍𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒗𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒆𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒚 𝒇𝒍𝒖𝒎𝒎𝒐𝒙𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑻𝑲𝑹 𝒃𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒔,” 𝒔𝒂𝒊𝒅 𝑲𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒔 𝒄𝒂𝒑𝒕𝒂𝒊𝒏.

Early breakthroughs by Pierre set the tone. He dismissed Colin Munro for a duck off the second ball, and later claimed Darren Bravo for 11, leaving Nicholas Pooran to attempt a lone recovery. However, once Chase removed Alex Hales for 9 at the end of the powerplay, TKR’s innings quickly unraveled. From 40 for 2, they slumped to 59 for 5 within ten overs.

Shamsi finished with figures of 3 for 12, bowling Keiron Pollard and Andre Russell with deceptive spin, while Chase and Potgieter wrapped up the tail. No TKR batter managed a score above 30 after Pooran’s 30 off 27 balls.

Kings Cruise Home

The chase was taken care of in commanding fashion. Tim Seifert set the tone from the start, hammering Akeal Hosein for 14 in the first over, including a six and two fours. Alongside Ackeem Auguste, Seifert doubled the score in the powerplay, putting Kings at 66 for 1 after six overs.

Despite losing Seifert and Auguste in the middle overs, Roston Chase and Tim David calmly guided Kings to victory with 53 balls to spare.

“𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒔𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑫𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒅 𝒘𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒄𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒊𝒅𝒅𝒍𝒆 𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔. 𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒖𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒐𝒏 𝒖𝒔 𝒅𝒖𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒔𝒆,” 𝒂𝒅𝒅𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒂𝒑𝒕𝒂𝒊𝒏.

This victory marked St Lucia Kings’ fourth consecutive win, boosting their net run rate and propelling them to the top of the CPL points table, while ending TKR’s five-match winning streak.
