Manchester United’s early struggles in the 2025/26 Premier League campaign have prompted the club to accelerate plans for new reinforcements in the January transfer window. With inconsistent performances and mounting pressure on manager Erik ten Hag, United’s hierarchy is now prioritising key signings to stabilise the season.
United Planning Immediate Squad Additions
Sources around Old Trafford suggest that the club is actively scouting players in midfield, defence, and attack to address glaring weaknesses. Injuries and underperformance across several positions have left the team lacking depth.
“United cannot afford another season of mediocrity — reinforcements are not optional; they are essential,” said a club insider.
Ten Hag has reportedly submitted a shortlist of priority targets, including a ball-winning midfielder, a commanding centre-back, and a pacey forward to boost creativity in the final third.
Board Determined to Back Ten Hag
Despite growing criticism, the board is believed to be fully supportive of Ten Hag and is prepared to sanction major signings if it helps United regain momentum. With the club slipping behind early title contenders, January could become a decisive month.
The recruitment team is also analysing long-term options, hinting at a possible summer overhaul depending on performance levels over the coming months.
“The ambition remains the same — Manchester United must compete at the highest level,” a senior official reportedly stated.
