English Premier League star Hamza Chowdhury has finally opened up about the heartfelt reason behind his decision to represent Bangladesh on the international stage. Having arrived in Dhaka yesterday afternoon ahead of two upcoming friendlies, the midfielder wasted no time connecting with the local football community. This morning, he was unveiled as an ambassador for Robi, one of the country’s largest mobile network operators.
Love Over Money: Hamza’s True Motivation
Speaking to the media during the event, Hamza made it clear that his decision wasn’t driven by financial gain but by deep patriotism and a desire to uplift Bangladeshi football.
“𝑰 𝒅𝒐𝒏’𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒌 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒎𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒚 𝒔𝒆𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒚. 𝑳𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒚 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒉𝒐𝒘 𝒕𝒐 𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒖𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒚 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒎𝒚 𝒎𝒂𝒊𝒏 𝒈𝒐𝒂𝒍𝒔. 𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒊𝒃𝒖𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒅𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒍𝒐𝒑𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒊𝒔 𝒘𝒉𝒚 𝑰 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒚 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑩𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒍𝒂𝒅𝒆𝒔𝒉.”
The midfielder emphasized that his return to Bangladesh was not just about playing football, but also about inspiring the next generation of players. “I have many childhood memories associated with Bangladesh,” he said, “and every visit feels like coming home.”
Playing for Pride, Family, and the Nation
Hamza, who has experienced top-flight football in England, acknowledged the huge gap in quality between the Premier League and Bangladesh’s football structure. Yet, he expressed deep pride in wearing the Bangladesh jersey and the love he has received from fans across the country.
“𝑰 𝒋𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒆 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒓𝒆𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒎𝒚 𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒚 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒎𝒚 𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒔 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒅. 𝑬𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒅 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒅𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑰’𝒎 𝒍𝒖𝒄𝒌𝒚 𝒕𝒐 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒂 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒂 𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒅 𝒕𝒐𝒐.”
He also shared how his children have fallen in love with the country, often asking when they can return to Bangladesh again.
Hope for the Future of Bangladeshi Football
Hamza believes Bangladesh’s football scene has huge untapped potential. Alongside fellow teammate Samit, he aims to bring professionalism and structure to the national setup.
“𝑾𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒔𝒆𝒆 𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒚 𝒕𝒂𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒓𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒐𝒘𝒏 𝒔𝒐𝒊𝒍, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑰𝒏𝒔𝒉𝒂 𝑨𝒍𝒍𝒂𝒉, 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒅𝒂𝒚 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒚 𝒊𝒏 𝑬𝒖𝒓𝒐𝒑𝒆.”
With two important matches ahead — a friendly against Nepal on November 13 and an Asian Cup qualifier versus India on November 18 — Hamza is fully focused.
“𝑰𝒏𝒔𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒂𝒉, 𝑰’𝒍𝒍 𝒈𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝟏𝟎𝟎% 𝒇𝒐𝒄𝒖𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒉𝒆𝒍𝒑 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒕𝒆𝒂𝒎 𝒘𝒊𝒏 — 𝒆𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚 𝒂𝒈𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒕 𝑰𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒂.”
With this attitude and passion, Hamza Chowdhury is quickly becoming the face of hope and pride for Bangladesh’s football future.
