Bangladesh’s midfield partnership between Hamza Chowdhury and Jamal Bhuiyan continues to shine both on and off the field. Hamza, who plays in the English Premier League, has already scored four goals in six matches for Bangladesh, with Jamal assisting two of them.

Ahead of the clash against India, Jamal spoke at a press conference, explaining how their understanding extends beyond football.
“He came from abroad just like me. Whenever he faces any issue, he texts or calls me,” Jamal shared. He added that the two often consult each other about football matters as well, which naturally improves their on-field chemistry.

Effective Partnership and Selection Uncertainty

Hamza’s first goal in Bangladesh colours came against Bhutan from Jamal’s corner, while Jamal’s delivery also created his most recent goal against Nepal. Reflecting on their link-up, Jamal said,

“𝑰’𝒎 𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒚 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒘𝒐 𝒐𝒇 𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒇𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒈𝒐𝒂𝒍𝒔 𝒄𝒂𝒎𝒆 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒎𝒚 𝒂𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒔. 𝑩𝒖𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒃𝒊𝒄𝒚𝒄𝒍𝒆-𝒌𝒊𝒄𝒌 𝒈𝒐𝒂𝒍 𝒓𝒆𝒎𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒐𝒔𝒕 𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒍.”

Hamza’s Emergence Eases Bangladesh’s Scoring Struggles

Despite their strong partnership, Jamal’s place in the starting XI remains uncertain. Even as captain, he has not consistently featured in the lineup. When asked about tomorrow’s match against India, he said,

“𝑰𝒕’𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒂𝒄𝒉’𝒔 𝒅𝒆𝒄𝒊𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏. 𝑰 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒚, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒊𝒕 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒄𝒆𝒓𝒕𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒍𝒚 𝒃𝒆 𝒅𝒊𝒔𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒇 𝑰 𝒅𝒐𝒏’𝒕.”

Bangladesh’s long-standing struggle with scoring appears to be easing since his arrival. Although primarily a defensive midfielder, Hamza has contributed goals regularly, with the team scoring in every match except against India. Coach Javier Cabrera praised his impact, saying that Hamza’s versatility and freedom on the pitch have brought “a very positive influence for the team.”
