A controversy over a run-out occurred on the opening day of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL). The incident took place yesterday at the BKSP ground during the match between Rupganj Tigers and Prime Bank Cricket Club. The coach, captain and manager of Prime Bank have been fined for the incident.

Chasing the target of 216 runs set by Rupganj, Prime Bank was under pressure from the start. They lost 3 wickets after scoring 7 runs on the scoreboard. Irfan Shukkur was at the crease with Shahadat Hossain Dipu. With the team leading by 23 runs, captain Shukkur pushed Fahad Hossain to extra cover and went for a run. He fell into the trap of being run out. Shukkur could not accept such an out.

He stood at the crease for a while. Then head coach Talha Zubair was also seen on the field. He talked to the match referee for a while, and play was stopped for a while. In the face of the umpire’s stubborn stance, Shukkur accepted the out and returned to the dugout. After such an incident, the coach and captain were fined 50 thousand taka each. In addition, manager Dev Chowdhury was also fined equally.

Although the coach was fined, captain Shukkur was given 3 demerit points. Earlier, Shukkur had 1 demerit point next to his name, making a total of four. Due to which this captain will not be able to play the next match.

Asked who will replace Shukkur, the team’s head coach Talha Zubair told Dhaka Post that it is not yet final. However, either Zakir Hasan or Naeem Sheikh could be seen as the captain.
