Jasprit Bumrah

Former England spinner Monty Panesar believes that India’s dependency on Jasprit Bumrah has significantly declined, especially after their impressive performances in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy without him. According to Panesar, the emergence of bowlers like Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna has reshaped the Indian pace unit.

“𝑻𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝑰𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒂𝒏 𝒕𝒆𝒂𝒎 𝒅𝒐𝒆𝒔 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒅𝒆𝒑𝒆𝒏𝒅 𝒐𝒏 𝑩𝒖𝒎𝒓𝒂𝒉 𝒂𝒏𝒚𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆,” 𝑷𝒂𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒂𝒓 𝒕𝒐𝒍𝒅 𝑴𝒊𝒅-𝑫𝒂𝒚. “𝑩𝒖𝒎𝒓𝒂𝒉’𝒔 𝒉𝒚𝒑𝒆 𝒊𝒔 𝒂𝒃𝒔𝒐𝒍𝒖𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒚 𝒎𝒂𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒗𝒆, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒍𝒆𝒕’𝒔 𝒃𝒆 𝒉𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒕, 𝑰𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒂 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒂 𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝒃𝒐𝒘𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒂𝒄𝒌.”

India’s Bowling Depth Shines Without Bumrah

India managed to win two Tests in the series without Bumrah, showcasing the growing depth in their fast-bowling resources. Panesar suggested that Krishna could be a long-term partner with Siraj in the red-ball format.

“Krishna is getting better and better with every Test match. I think he can open the bowling with Siraj,” he added. “They just need a third seamer, maybe Akash Deep or Arshdeep Singh.”

Siraj Emerging as India’s Bowling Leader

Panesar emphasised that while Bumrah remains a quality pacer, the current pace attack thrives even in his absence. He believes the Indian management should build their future pace attack around Siraj, who has proven to be a standout performer.

“𝑺𝒊𝒓𝒂𝒋 𝒖𝒕𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚 𝒘𝒆𝒍𝒍. 𝑯𝒆’𝒔 𝒂 𝒉𝒖𝒈𝒆 𝒂𝒔𝒔𝒆𝒕 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑰𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒂𝒏 𝒄𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒌𝒆𝒕,” 𝑷𝒂𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒂𝒓 𝒔𝒂𝒊𝒅. “𝑰 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒌 𝒉𝒆 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒂𝒄𝒌 𝒏𝒐𝒘 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑰𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒂 𝒏𝒆𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒖𝒊𝒍𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒂𝒄𝒌 𝒂𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒅 𝒉𝒊𝒎.”

Siraj finished the series as the leading wicket-taker, grabbing 23 wickets in nine innings at an average of 32.43. His outstanding performance at The Oval, where he took 4/86 and 5/104, earned him the Player of the Match award.

Prasidh Krishna also impressed with match figures of 8/188 (4/62 and 4/126), contributing significantly to India’s six-run victory and series-levelling result.

Siraj’s incredible stamina and ability to bowl long spells made a strong impression. The pacer bowled a total of 185.3 overs during the five-match series—an effort that drew admiration across the cricketing world.
