Jasprit Bumrah was injured during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Team India’s fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah may take some time to return to competitive cricket. According to a report in the Times of India, the fast bowler may be out till the first or second week of the IPL and may join the Mumbai Indians camp only in April.
Bumrah is undergoing rehab at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru after missing the ongoing Champions Trophy due to a back injury. A BCCI source said, “Bumrah’s medical report is fine. He has resumed bowling at the COE. However, it looks like he won’t be able to bowl at the start of the IPL in the next two weeks.
A big update came out about Bumrah
In such a situation, Bumrah may be out of the first three or four matches for Mumbai. Bumrah has not started bowling at full speed yet. The source said, “This is standard operating procedure. The medical team will gradually increase his workload and intensity. Until he is able to bowl at full speed without any trouble for a few days, he is unlikely to be cleared by the medical team.”
It is worth noting that India has to tour England for five Test matches immediately after IPL 2025. The goal is to keep Bumrah fit for as many Tests as possible in England. It is not confirmed whether Rohit Sharma will captain India in England or not. If Rohit Sharma is not a part of Team India for that series, then Bumrah can be given the responsibility of captaincy.
Shami and Bumrah may be seen playing together in the England series
The source said, ‘How Shami and Bumrah take the long IPL season will be important. Shami is being constantly monitored. If the selectors make both of them available to play two-three Tests together, it will be an ideal situation. The team management will also be wary of pushing both of them to play all the Tests together. No one wants any of them to get injured during a Test match, like what happened with Bumrah in Sydney. A lot depended on Bumrah alone in Australia.’
