Arne Slot has addressed increasing speculation about his future at Liverpool, admitting he is stunned by the club’s dramatic collapse in form — the worst in more than seven decades. Despite winning the Premier League only six months ago, Arne Slot now finds his team under intense pressure after a 4–1 Champions League defeat to PSV, adding to a string of heavy losses.
Liverpool’s Historic Run of Defeats
Liverpool’s 4–1 loss to PSV followed a 3–0 defeat to Nottingham Forest, marking their ninth loss in 12 matches — the club’s worst 12-game stretch since the 1953–54 season. Under Arne Slot, Liverpool have also suffered three consecutive defeats by at least three goals for the first time in 72 years. The Anfield crowd voiced their anger, booing at full-time, further amplifying the scrutiny on Arne Slot.
Arne Slot: “The Situation Is a Shock for Everyone”
Speaking after the PSV match, Arne admitted he is surprised by how severe Liverpool’s decline has been.
“It is a shock for everyone — for the players and for me,” Arne Slot said. “This is very unexpected. I still feel safe in my position.”
Arne added that the scrutiny is understandable:
“If any manager loses as many games as we have, people will talk. That’s normal. From the conversations I’ve had with the board, I feel their trust.”
Beyond the scoreline, Arne said the performance against PSV was worrying. Liverpool looked flat, lacked intensity, and were punished for repeated defensive mistakes.
“The emotions are extremely negative,” Arne Slot explained. “Even when we’ve lost before, our performances were better. This time, we couldn’t even compete.”
Arne refused to blame individuals despite key errors, insisting responsibility is shared across the squad — including himself.
Curtis Jones also spoke openly about the situation, echoing the concern he expressed about Liverpool’s standards dropping.
“I’m a fan of this club,” Jones said. “I’ve never seen a period like this. We’re in a very bad place, and it has to change.”
Jones highlighted that Liverpool under Arne Slot have lost their trademark identity — pressing, aggression, and energy.
“Teams used to hate coming here,” he added. “Now we don’t play with that same bite. That has to improve.”
Arne Slot remains under heavy scrutiny as Liverpool navigate one of the darkest runs in their modern era. Still,he insists he feels support from above and is focused on leading Liverpool out of this slump. With the club losing more games this season than in the entirety of the previous campaign, Arne Slot now faces the biggest challenge of his tenure.
