Virat Kohli surprised everyone by announcing his retirement from Test cricket and did not give any reason behind this sudden decision. India was already preparing for the 5-match Test series against England and Virat Kohli decided to move away from this format just before that. Cricketers around the world are surprised by Virat’s decision.
According to former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif, Kohli was preparing for the England tour and even participated in the Ranji Trophy, but he did not get support from the selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar. Kaif says that Virat Kohli was planning for the England tour which is starting from June 20.
Mohammad Kaif gave a big statement on Virat Kohli’s Test retirement
Even before the selectors could meet to select the team for the tour, he announced his retirement from Test cricket. According to Kaif, Kohli even played domestic cricket in February after returning from the Australia tour. He played a Ranji Trophy match. Obviously, he was preparing for the England tour and beyond. But he probably did not get support from the selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar. He was given the hint that now there is no place for him in Test matches.
Mohammad Kaif was quoted by News 24 as saying,
