Newcastle Showed Dominance as United Clinch Crucial Win

United

Despite being outplayed for long spells, Manchester United snatched a vital win against Newcastle United at Old Trafford, thanks to a decisive strike from Patrick Dorgu. The Red Devils climbed to fifth place in the Premier League, turning efficiency into three crucial points.

Visiting Newcastle controlled possession, territory, and attacking momentum, but Ruben Amorim’s side proved ruthless when it mattered most.

Dorgu Delivers the Decisive Moment

Manchester scored the only goal of the match in the 24th minute. A long throw from Diogo Dalot was partially cleared, allowing Patrick Dorgu to unleash a fierce left-footed strike from the edge of the box that flew into the net. It marked Dorgu’s first goal for Manchester United.

Before the breakthrough, Matheus Cunha forced a sharp save from Newcastle goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, while Casemiro and Benjamin Šeško both fired narrowly wide in the opening exchanges.

Although United enjoyed just 34% possession, they registered 10 shots, with three on target. Newcastle, meanwhile, dominated with 66% of the ball and fired 13 shots, but managed only two on target.

Newcastle Pressure, United Hold Firm

Newcastle pushed hard for an equaliser after the break. Bruno Guimarães came close with a header that was brilliantly saved by United goalkeeper Sean Lammens, while Fabian Schär narrowly missed after sustained pressure early in the second half.

They nearly doubled their advantage when Šeško rattled the crossbar, while Newcastle responded moments later through Lewis Hall, whose powerful effort also struck the woodwork.

The visitors appealed loudly for a penalty after claiming Lisandro Martínez handled the ball inside the area. However, after a VAR review, the referee waved play on.

“𝑾𝒆 𝒉𝒂𝒅 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒍, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒍 𝒅𝒐𝒆𝒔𝒏’𝒕 𝒈𝒖𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒆 𝒈𝒐𝒂𝒍𝒔,” 𝒂 𝒇𝒓𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝑵𝒆𝒘𝒄𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒍𝒆 𝒄𝒂𝒎𝒑 𝒂𝒅𝒎𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒑𝒐𝒔𝒕-𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉.

Anthony Gordon later fired off target with a golden chance, and Martínez missed late for United. Despite Newcastle’s dominance, the scoreline remained unchanged as United closed out the match with disciplined defending.
