The World Cup began in 1930. The competition will be celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2030. That is why FIFA, the international football governing body, is planning to celebrate the centenary of this global event in a special way. It has been proposed that 64 teams will play in the 2030 World Cup. However, a final decision has not been made yet.

Morocco, Spain and Portugal will host the 2030 World Cup. Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay will also host matches. Uruguay hosted the World Cup in 1930. Uruguay and Argentina played in the final. Paraguay also played in the first World Cup. These three countries will each host one match in the 2030 World Cup. This decision has been taken to celebrate 100 years.

Usually, the Football World Cup involves 32 countries. After starting with the World Cup in France in 1998, the 32-team World Cup ended with the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The 2026 World Cup will involve 48 countries. The hosts are America, Mexico and Canada.

A FIFA official said, “There has been a proposal to host the World Cup with 64 countries in the 100th year of the World Cup. This proposal was made at the meeting that took place on March 5. However, it is not yet certain whether it will happen or not.” FIFA President Gianni Infantino is said to have liked this proposal.

British band Coldplay may perform at the 2026 World Cup. FIFA is in talks with them. There is a plan to organize a Coldplay concert during the break of the World Cup final match.

Incidentally, the 2030 World Cup matches will be held in three different continents and six countries. However, there will be three special matches in Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay. The tournament will open with the opening matches in the three Latin countries, despite not being the hosts. The World Cup will start on June 8, 2030, and the final will be on July 21.
