The Texas Super Kings climbed to second place in the MLC 2025 standings after outclassing Washington Freedom by 43 runs in a rain-shortened five-overs-a-side match on Wednesday night in Lauderhill.
The victory means Texas, Freedom, and San Francisco Unicorns are all tied on 12 points from eight games each, but Unicorns hold the top spot thanks to a superior net run-rate.
Ranjane and Ferreira Power Brutal Finish
Freedom had won the toss and decided to field first, and their bowlers struck early blows. Marcus Stoinis fell for just 2, and Daryl Mitchell had to retire out on 6, suggesting Freedomβs tactics were spot-on.
However, Shubham Ranjane and Donovan Ferreira turned the innings around in spectacular fashion. The pair blasted 53 runs off just 12 balls in a devastating unbroken stand for the third wicket. Ranjane smashed 39 from 14 deliveries while Ferreira hammered 37 in only nine balls to lift the Super Kings to 87 in five overs.

Freedomβs Chase Falters Despite Phillipsβ Effort
Freedomβs strong batting lineup was rocked early by Nandre Burger, who removed Rachin Ravindra and Glenn Maxwell off successive deliveries in the opening over.
Akeal Hosein added to the damage by dismissing Mitchell Owen in the second over. Although Glenn Phillips struck 18 off 11 balls and remained not out, Freedom couldnβt find the boundaries needed to stay in contention.

In total, Freedom hit just three fours and three sixes compared to TSKβs four fours and eight sixesβall of which came off the bats of Ranjane and Ferreira.
