Tahura goals dominated a night of drama, controversy and chaos as Farashganj crushed Kacharipara 23-0 in the Bangladesh Women’s League on Sunday (January 4). The one-sided scoreline once again raised questions about competitiveness in the league, a concern already echoed by Bangladesh women’s team coach Peter Butler ahead of the Asia Cup.

Tahura One-Sided Rout Raises Serious Questions

Matches featuring 20–25 goals have become common in the women’s league, fuelling debate over quality and preparation. Despite those concerns, national team players were allowed to feature in such fixtures just months before major international commitments.

A BFF official, speaking after the match, admitted, “Such scorelines are not healthy for competitive football, but league matches must go on as scheduled.”

The match at Bir Shrestha Shaheed Sipahi Mustafa Kamal Stadium kicked off at 8:00 pm but stretched beyond 10:00 pm due to multiple stoppages. The Bangladesh Football Federation released the official match report after midnight.

Goals, Fights, and Red Cards

Farashganj struck within 38 seconds of kickoff and never slowed down. The game boiled over in the 21st minute when players from both sides clashed, Tahura forcing a lengthy discussion between referees and the match commissioner. Farashganj’s Monika Chakma and Kacharipara’s Samia Akhter were both shown red cards, with play halted for over 15 minutes.

After the restart, Farashganj scored again within a minute. By halftime, the score stood at 8-0, before another 15 goals followed after the break.

Tahura Khatun led the scoring with a hat-trick, while Shamsunnahar Junior and captain Maria Manda each struck three goals. Shamsunnahar Senior scored twice, with Samiksha Ghimire, Anamika Tripura, Manuching Marma, Preeti, and Trisha also getting on the scoresheet.

Reflecting on the chaotic encounter, one match official said, “Control became difficult once tempers flared, but the referees followed protocol.”

Despite BFF urging media coverage of the women’s league, journalists once again complained of limited access and support during the match — mirroring the wider concerns now surrounding the competition itself.
