A Seoul court has sentenced a 20-year-old South Korean woman to four years in prison for blackmailing star footballer Son Heung-min. The case shocked fans worldwide as details of the extortion came to light.
According to court documents, the woman, identified as Yang, claimed she was pregnant with Son Heung-min’s child and demanded 300 million Korean won (approximately $250,000) to keep the allegation private.
Son Heung-min Testifies Amid Blackmail Claims
The incident occurred in June, and Son Heung-min later appeared in a closed-door hearing in November to testify. The prosecution revealed that Yang even sent Son Heung-min an ultrasonography image, threatening to make the matter public if her demands were not met.
“This crime was extremely heinous. The victim suffered serious psychological harm, and the defendant took advantage of his fame and vulnerability,” the court stated.
Previous Attempts and Additional Extortion
Investigation revealed that Yang and her boyfriend tried to extort another 70 million Korean won, targeting Son a second time. She had also attempted similar blackmail schemes against others in the past.
The court highlighted that Yang never confirmed the father of the alleged child, making her claims entirely unverified and malicious. “A popular figure like Son is particularly vulnerable, and the exploitation in this case cannot be overlooked,” the ruling noted.
