The BCCI has announced the Indian team and the new Test captain for the Test series of the England tour on Saturday, May 24. Shubman Gill has been appointed captain and Rishabh Pant as vice-captain. A new era of the Indian Test team is now going to begin under the captaincy of Shubman.

Shubman Gill has captained India in T20

Shubman Gill has previously led the Indian team in the T20 series. He will now start his tenure as Test captain with the five-match series against England. Under Gill’s captaincy, India will once again try to make it to the World Test Championship final.

After losing the last series against Australia, India missed out on making it to the finals for the third consecutive time. Let us tell you, India was captained by Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the 2021 and 2023 WTC finals. In both these matches, India had to face defeat against New Zealand and Australia.

Shubman Gill has scored 1893 runs in 59 Test innings for India at an average of 35.05, which includes five centuries and 7 half-centuries. Gill has played three Tests in England, where he has scored 88 runs in 6 innings at an average of 14.66. It has been four years since Gill scored more than 50 runs outside Asia.
