Shubman Gill

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the 18-member squad for the England tour on Saturday, May 24. The most special moment of this announcement was the appointment of Shubman Gill as the new Test captain of India. This is a great news for cricket fans, as Gill is already in the headlines for his brilliant batting and leadership skills. Now everyone’s eyes will be on this young captain to see how he performs as a captain on the tour of England.

Shubman Gill Appointed as New Test Captain for England Tour

The Indian team selected for the England tour has not made many changes compared to the team of the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT). However, the biggest change is that senior players Rohit Sharma and former captain Virat Kohli, who were part of the BGT, will not be included in this tour, as both of them have recently retired from red-ball cricket.

Apart from this, veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is also not in this team, as he announced his retirement from Test cricket during BGT itself. In the absence of these veterans, all eyes will be on the new faces included in the team and the young captain Shubman Gill.

Some more players have been dropped from the Indian team announced for the England tour, including Sarfaraz Khan, Devdutt Padikkal, Harshit Rana and Tanush Kotian, who were part of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) team. Their exclusion definitely surprised the fans, but in their place some young talented players have been given a chance, which is a very good thing.

Some young players have been included in the Indian team for the ENG series

Sai Sudarshan, Karun Nair, Shardul Thakur, Arshdeep Singh and Kuldeep Yadav have been included in the team for the England tour. Sudarshan has been brought in to strengthen the top order, who is known for his technique and patience. At the same time, Karun Nair’s return to Test cricket is very special, as he has again made a place in the Indian team after a long gap of 2,979 days. Fans hope that these new faces and experienced players will be seen performing brilliantly on the soil of England.

Devdutt Padikal is out of the England tour due to injury. Harshit Rana could not make much of an impact on the Australian pitches, due to which he was probably kept out of the team. Left-arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has been included in the current team due to his experience of playing county cricket for Kent. Shardul Thakur has also returned because he has played in England before and he knows the conditions there well.

The team includes two all-rounder spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar, while Kuldeep Yadav has been brought in as a specialist spinner. In the absence of Ravichandran Ashwin, this left-arm spinner will have a very important role to play. His unique wrist spin bowling can prove to be a big weapon against the English batsmen and he can prove to be a trump card for Team India on this tour.
