Shreyas Iyer

Everyone is crazy about IPL right now. Meanwhile, BCCI has announced the India-A team for the upcoming England tour. Abhimanyu Easwaran has been given the command. While Dhruv Jurel has been appointed as the vice-captain and players like Ishan Kishan, Karun Nair have returned to the team. But Shreyas Iyer has not got a place in the team, which is raising questions.

Shreyas Iyer scored 480 runs in 7 innings in the Ranji Trophy season last year. After that he also performed well in ODIs. He was the highest run-scorer for India in the Champions Trophy 2025. Therefore, it was expected that he would be given a chance again in Test matches. Let us tell you why Shreyas Iyer has not been selected in the team for the England tour.

Shreyas Iyer needs to improve in red ball cricket

According to The Telegraph report, a BCCI source said that Shreyas Iyer needs to work a little more on his red ball game. England’s pitches help fast bowlers more. There will be good swing and movement there, so the batsman should know the art of leaving the ball.

Facing short balls is Shreyas’s biggest weakness, but in recent times he has worked on this weakness. However, the selection committee has still ignored Shreyas Iyer and given a chance to many young players in the India A team.

Shubman Gill will join India-A team from the second match

Due to the IPL 2025 playoff matches, Shubman Gill and Sai Sudarshan will join the India A team from the second match. The Punjab Kings team captained by Shreyas Iyer also has a chance to reach the playoff round. If Punjab also reaches the playoffs, then Shreyas Iyer could also join the India A team from the second match. But he has not got a place in the India A team.

The India A team will play two first-class matches against England Lions in Canterbury and Northampton. The India A tour will be preceded by a five-match Test series in England. The India A team will also play an ‘intra-squad’ match with the senior team in Beckenham from June 13 to 16. The first Test will begin in Leeds from June 20.
