Mohamed Salah, who had recently been left out of Liverpool’s starting lineup and the squad by coach Arne Slott, marked a memorable comeback. The Egyptian forward returned to the field as a substitute and immediately made an impact by assisting Hugo Ekiti in Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Brighton at Anfield on Saturday.
Salah’s Impactful Return Sparks Liverpool Victory
Liverpool dominated the match, maintaining 49% possession and taking 18 shots, five of which were on target. Brighton managed just one of 14 shots on goal. The win is a relief for Liverpool, who have been inconsistent this season, but the team remains sixth in the Premier League with 26 points from 16 games.
Salah entered the pitch in the 26th minute following an injury to David Gomez. “I wanted to contribute as soon as I came on,” Salah said. His assist contributed to his 277th goal involvement (goals + assists) for Liverpool, surpassing Wayne Rooney’s Premier League record of 276.
Arsenal and Chelsea Also Secure Wins
On the same day, Chelsea defeated Everton 2-0 at Stamford Bridge. England’s Cole Palmer scored his first goal since returning from injury, and French defender Malo Gusteau added a second. Chelsea had 58% possession and took 16 shots, with five on target. The win lifts the Blues into the top four, with 28 points from 16 matches.
Meanwhile, Arsenal edged past Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1, courtesy of two own goals by Wolves players. Despite dominating possession (70%) and creating multiple chances, the Gunners were unable to score themselves. Gabriel Jesus and Martin Ødegaard praised the team’s resilience after the match. “We kept pushing and stayed focused,” Ødegaard said. This result extends Arsenal’s lead at the top of the table to 36 points, five ahead of second-placed Manchester City.
