Manchester City defender Ruben Dias endured a distressing off-field blow after his Cheshire home was reportedly broken into while he attended City’s UEFA Champions League clash against Galatasaray. The Portuguese star, sidelined with a hamstring injury, had gone to the Etihad Stadium to support his teammates during their 2-0 victory when the incident occurred.

Dias and his partner, British TV presenter Maya Jama, were away from their property in Alderley Edge at the time. Local police confirmed they were alerted late in the evening after signs of forced entry were discovered, and multiple items were taken.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson told the BBC,

Reports say the pair returned to find several rooms ransacked and personal belongings missing. The break-in has left them shaken, as the property was their first home together after relocating to the quiet Cheshire neighborhood late last year.

A source close to the couple revealed,

“𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒅𝒆𝒗𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒅. 𝑻𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒊𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒊𝒓 𝒇𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕 𝒉𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒐𝒈𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓, 𝒘𝒉𝒊𝒄𝒉 𝒊𝒔 𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒍 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒎. 𝑻𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒌𝒇𝒖𝒍𝒍𝒚, 𝒏𝒆𝒊𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒎 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒉𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆.”

While City celebrated qualification for the Champions League last 16, Dias continues his recovery from injury. Meanwhile, Jama is currently in South Africa hosting Love Island All-Stars as authorities work to track down those responsible for the burglary.
