Rory McIlroy Returns to Northern Ireland After Masters Win

Rory McIlroy

Rory McIlroy has returned to Northern Ireland after winning the Masters at Augusta.

According to the Belfast Telegraph, his private jet landed at George Best Belfast City Airport on Friday.

McIlroy made history on Sunday by completing golf’s Grand Slam with a thrilling play-off victory at the Masters.

His parents, Gerry and Rosie, weren’t there to see the win, and McIlroy is now back home for a quiet, private visit.

Fighting back tears, McIlroy was helped into the Green Jacket by last year’s winner, Scottie Scheffler. He said, “Hi to my mum and dad in Northern Ireland. I’m really looking forward to seeing you next week and celebrating together.”

Rory McIlroy’s Childhood Home

Rory McIlroy went to school in Holywood. He started at St Patrick’s Primary School and later studied at Sullivan Upper School.

His love for golf came from his father, who was also a big fan of the game. His dad used to take him to the golf course even when he was a baby in a pram.

Rory learned to play golf at Holywood Golf Club, which sits on the hills near his hometown.

He became a professional golfer in 2007. His first big win was at the US Open in 2011, followed by the PGA Championship in 2012. In 2014, he won The Open, leaving only the Masters to win for a career Grand Slam.
