Mumbai Indians’ star batsman Rohit Sharma has shown signs of diminishing passion and intensity since the start of IPL 2025, raising concerns about the team’s chances in the playoffs. At 38, Rohit, who has retired from T20 Internationals and Test cricket, appears to be struggling to ignite the same fire that once made him one of the most formidable players in world cricket. His recent performances have been underwhelming, prompting former India cricketer Atul Wassan to issue a caution to the Mumbai franchise.
Rohit remains active only in ODIs on the international front, but in the IPL, the batter has yet to deliver the explosive performances expected from a player of his stature. With Mumbai Indians facing a crucial Eliminator match to keep their IPL 2025 title hopes alive, the timing couldn’t be tougher for the veteran.

Wassan commented during his chat on the OTTplay app’s Bails and Banter.
Rumors had circulated about Rohit possibly leaving Mumbai Indians after the captaincy controversy during IPL 2024, but he stayed on for another season. However, the future of this partnership remains uncertain as Rohit’s continued commitment to the franchise is now in question.
Wassan added,

In IPL 2025 so far, Rohit has accumulated 329 runs from 13 matches at an average of 27.42, a far cry from his peak form.
