For the first time in a decade, the Indian Premier League and the Pakistan Super League (PSL) are facing off directly. Similar to the IPL, the PSL has some excellent cricket, but Ramiz Raja’s blunders during the post-match presentation were widely shared on social media.

Multan Sultans finally registered their first win in PSL 2025, defeating Lahore Qalandars by 33 runs in a high-scoring thriller on April 22. The Pakistan Super League 2025 clash, held at the Sultans’ home ground in Multan, saw Yasir Khan smashing a brilliant 87 off just 44 balls and Iftikhar Ahmed playing a vital unbeaten knock of 40 runs from 18 deliveries. Their collective efforts helped Multan Sultans post 228/5, the highest PSL score ever recorded in Multan.

Despite a fiery start by Fakhar Zaman and a fighting half-century by Sikandar Raza, Lahore fell short in their chase, managing 195/9 in 20 overs. Joshua Little’s stunning catch earned him the ‘Catch of the Match’ award, capping a strong all-round performance by Multan.

Ramiz Raja’s viral ‘HBL IPL’ gaffe at post-match presentation

However, what caught the attention of fans on social media was a hilarious slip-up by presenter Ramiz Raja during the post-match presentation. While announcing Joshua Little’s reward for the best catch, Ramiz mistakenly said “HBL IPL” instead of PSL, causing instant laughter among fans and a wave of memes online.

This commentary error quickly went viral, with fans trolling Ramiz for the blunder. The clip, now trending as a viral PSL moment, showcased how even seasoned presenters like Ramiz can fall victim to live broadcast slip-ups. Some fans expressed disappointment, while others took it lightly, enjoying the cricket commentary blooper as light-hearted humor.

Ramiz Raja Accidentally Calls PSL as IPL, Gets Roasted by Fans

PSL and IPL clash for the first time in a decade

Interestingly, this blunder came in a season where PSL and IPL are overlapping for the first time in over 10 years. Due to the ICC Champions Trophy schedule, PCB shifted PSL to an April-May window. This change also helped avoid clashes with other major T20 leagues like SA20, ILT20, and BBL.

With IPL 2025 underway since March 22 and PSL 2025 running until May 18, the overlap is unprecedented. It may explain Ramiz’s slip of the tongue, with both leagues dominating cricket coverage simultaneously.

A one-sided contest on the field

Despite the off-field humor, Multan Sultans vs Lahore Qalandars was a largely one-sided contest. Multan’s aggressive powerplay start, aided by Mohammad Rizwan and Yasir Khan, set the tone. Lahore struggled to match the tempo, and despite a valiant effort from Sam Billings and Sikandar Raza, they couldn’t pull off the chase.

With this win, Multan move up in the PSL 2025 points table, and fans will hope this victory kickstarts their season. Meanwhile, Ramiz Raja’s PSL slip-up will likely remain one of the most talked-about moments of the tournament.
