Cricket – Dale Phillips Joins Auckland
Dale Phillips has made a move to Auckland after years with Otago, marking his first senior stint for the side he represented in age-group cricket. The 26-year-old recently trained at the Super Kings Academy in Chennai to improve his skills against spin.
“It’s a fresh start for me with Auckland, and I’m excited to contribute,” Phillips said.
Bevon Jacobs, known for his time with Mumbai Indians, and Rohit Gulati have also signed contracts with Auckland. Harrish Kannan, who moved from Australia, is among the newcomers.
Canterbury Boosts Batting with Leo Carter
Canterbury have strengthened their top order by bringing in Leo Carter from Otago. Carter is remembered for “smashing six sixes in an over” during the 2020 Super Smash.
Young talents Jesse Frew and Scott Janett, who impressed in List A cricket, have also earned contracts.
Foxcroft Returns to Central Districts
Dean Foxcroft is set to play for Central Districts again, having last represented them in 2019. Doug Bracewell re-joins after focusing on SA20 last season.
“It feels good to be back where it all began,” Foxcroft shared.
Craig McMillian will coach the side for the Global Super League while Ben Smith is in the UK.
Seifert Sticks to Casual Contract
Northern Districts wicketkeeper Tim Seifert has again chosen a casual contract to keep playing franchise cricket globally. Scott Kuggeleijn returns to a full contract, and promising left-arm spinner Tim Pringle is back after ankle surgery.
Teenager Xavier Bell has landed his first deal after prolific run-scoring at junior levels.
“This is just the beginning for me,” Bell commented.
Otago Sign Multiple New Faces
Otago have recruited Danru Ferns, Jack Boyle, and Troy Johnson from other domestic teams. Former Under-19 pacer Mason Clarke has also secured his first contract.
“There’s a lot of talent coming in, and it will make us stronger,” an Otago spokesperson noted.
Wellington Adds Fresh Talent
Wellington’s new contracts include Samuel Morgan and seamer Amogh Paranjpe, who “picked up ten wickets in a club final to seal the title.”
Gary Stead Becomes Otago Interim Coach
Gary Stead, who recently stepped down as New Zealand head coach, will lead Otago as interim coach. He replaces Ashley Noffke, who has joined Pakistan’s staff.
“I’m looking forward to helping Otago’s players develop and grow,” Stead said.
