Fast bowler Mayank Yadav has been ruled out of the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 due to a back injury . The league confirmed this on Thursday, May 15. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have named New Zealand fast bowler Will O’Rourke in his place for the remainder of the league stage and potentially the play-offs.
Mayank Yadav had to be ruled out of the remaining matches of the Indian Premier League i.e. IPL 2025 due to a back injury. The IPL media release states that Mayank Yadav has suffered a back injury and is out of the remaining season. Mayank Yadav, who returned after six months of ‘rehabilitation’ at the NCA, conceded 100 runs in eight overs in two matches and took just two wickets.
Mayank Yadav’s speed dropped
Mayank’s speed had dropped by at least 15 kmph and there has been a change in bowling action. For the record, Mayank has played nine T20 matches between March 30, 2024 and May 4, 2025, which is exactly 13 months and four days. In these nine matches, he played four T20 matches for Lucknow last year when he created a stir by bowling 150 kmph consistently.
“Now that Nitin Patel is gone you don’t know who to ask about Mayank’s rehabilitation. The next question that needs to be asked is whether he was given a ‘fit’ certificate prematurely without ensuring that his back injury could resurface within two matches? There is a lot missing from Mayank Yadav and Umran Malik’s injury rehabilitation timelines,” a strength and conditioning trainer who has worked at the NCA told PTI on condition of anonymity.
Let us tell you that Lucknow Super Giants, who are currently in the race for the play-offs with 10 points from 11 matches, will resume their IPL 2025 campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Lucknow on Monday, May 19.
