Washington Freedom cruised to a six-wicket win over MI New York after Glenn Maxwell delivered another superb bowling display in Lauderhill. This victory not only took Freedom to the top of the MLC 2025 standings but also guaranteed them a top-two finish before playoffs.
MINY Struggle After Resting Key Players
With their playoff berth already secure, MI New York rested several first-choice players. Their batting never got going in the rain-shortened 18-over match. After choosing to bat, they slipped to 20 for 2 as Maxwell and Jack Edwards struck early blows. Debutant Kunwarjeet Singh provided some resistance with 33 off 30 balls, but the innings faltered to 112 for 8 as the lower order failed to accelerate.

Maxwell claimed 3 for 29, backing up his previous match-winning haul. He was later named Player of the Match for the second consecutive time.
Freedom’s Chase Sealed with Ease
Washington Freedom’s reply was calm and precise. Though Mitchell Owen and Rachin Ravindra fell cheaply again, Andries Gous anchored the chase with an unbeaten 46 off 34 balls. Mark Chapman contributed 27 before Glenn Phillips joined Gous to complete the win inside 15 overs.

MI New York, having won just three of ten league matches, will now face either Texas Super Kings or San Francisco Unicorns in the Eliminator.
