Man United are expected to explore the transfer market for a left winger next summer, with reports suggesting the club are monitoring three candidates across Serie A and the Premier League.
Man United allowed Alejandro Garnacho to join Chelsea last summer and opted not to recruit a direct replacement. Instead, attacking reinforcements arrived in other areas, leaving the left flank without a natural specialist option this season.
Man United’s Squad Situation
The absence of a natural left winger has forced tactical adjustments. Mason Mount has regularly featured in Ruben Amorim’s front three, while wing-back Patrick Dorgu has also been pushed further forward at times under Darren Fletcher and current head coach Michael Carrick.
While no January move is planned, United are expected to target both a left winger and a central midfielder at the end of the 2025/26 season. Champions League qualification would significantly strengthen their hand in the market.
Midfield targets reportedly include Carlos Baleba of Brighton, Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, and Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton.
United’s Left-Winger Shortlist
According to the Daily Mail, Man United are tracking three players in particular:
- Rafael Leão (AC Milan)
- Tyrique George (Chelsea)
- Iliman Ndiaye (Everton)
Italian sources claim AC Milan would “consider a sale” of star winger Rafael Leão this summer, potentially opening the door to a long-rumoured Premier League move.
Man United’s ownership group is also believed to prefer Premier League-proven or domestic options, which brings Tyrique George of Chelsea and Iliman Ndiaye from Everton into focus.
Player Profiles and Comparisons
Leão, 26, remains one of Europe’s most highly rated wide attackers. Under contract until 2028, the Portuguese international has recorded seven goals and two assists in 16 Serie A appearances this season and boasts 143 goal contributions in 278 games for Milan. While his price is expected to be lower than the £100m previously quoted, he would still command a significant fee.
Ndiaye, 25, offers Premier League experience and a different profile. Though his tally of four goals and two assists this season is modest, his dribbling ability and one-on-one threat make him a constant danger, with many valuing his work beyond raw numbers. His contract runs until 2029.
George, at just 19, represents a longer-term gamble. The Chelsea youngster has struggled for minutes and was close to leaving last summer, which could make him available at a relatively low cost. Man United reportedly view him as a high-upside option if the price remains below £25 million.
