Mohammed’s Ton Anchors the Chase
Isaac Mohammed produced a brilliant century to guide England U19s to a four-wicket victory over Bangladesh U19s in the second Youth ODI at Loughborough. His 104 from 95 balls, packed with nine sixes, became the foundation of England’s successful chase of 273.
Earlier, half-centuries from Rifat Beg (51) and Rizan Hossan (57) lifted Bangladesh to 272 for nine in a rain-shortened 47-over innings. England’s James Minto impressed once again with the ball, following his five-wicket haul in the first game by claiming three for 48.
Joe Moores pulled off the moment of the match with a stunning diving one-handed catch to dismiss KS Aleen, later reflecting:
“𝑰𝒕 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒔𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒌𝒔… 𝒊𝒕 𝒇𝒆𝒍𝒕 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒔𝒍𝒐𝒘 𝒎𝒐𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒂 𝒈𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒕 𝒇𝒆𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒐 𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒃 𝒊𝒕.”
Young Lions Keep Series Alive
Moores (47) partnered with Mohammed for an opening stand of 68 to set the tone for the chase. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals – including skipper Thomas Rew for 14 – England remained on track. Jack Nelson, playing just his second match, provided a calm unbeaten 35 to seal the win with 3.5 overs to spare.
Mohammed, speaking about his innings, earned praise from his teammates. Moores noted:
“𝑰𝒔𝒂𝒂𝒄 𝒃𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚 𝒘𝒆𝒍𝒍, 𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒆𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒕𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒏𝒊𝒄𝒆𝒍𝒚 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒑𝒑𝒆𝒅 𝒊𝒏 𝒂𝒇𝒕𝒆𝒓. 𝑰𝒕’𝒔 𝒈𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒈𝒆𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒊𝒕 𝒐𝒏𝒆-𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒔.”
The victory levels the five-match series 1-1, with the next clash set for Bristol on Tuesday.
