Temba Bavuma

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced its 15-member squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against India, starting November 14 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, followed by the second Test from November 22 at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati. The headline news is the return of Temba Bavuma as captain, after recovering from a left calf strain that kept him out during South Africa’s recent tour of Pakistan.

Bavuma suffered the injury during an ODI against England last month and missed the start of South Africa’s World Test Championship title defense. In his absence, the Proteas managed to draw their Test series 1-1 against Pakistan, largely thanks to the spin trio of Keshav Maharaj, Simon Harmer, and Senuran Muthusamy—all of whom have retained their spots for the India tour.

Squad and Key Players

Bavuma will slot back into the middle order alongside Aiden Markram, Tony de Zorzi, Dewald Brevis, Zubayr Hamza, and Ryan Rickelton, while Kyle Verreynne remains the designated wicketkeeper. South Africa’s pace attack is led by Kagiso Rabada, with support from Marco Jansen, Corbin Bosch, and Wiaan Mulder. Prenelan Subrayen misses out despite playing in Pakistan, as the team has opted for three frontline spinners suitable for Indian conditions. David Bedingham, who did not feature against Pakistan, has also been left out.

Head coach Shukri Conrad emphasized continuity in selection:
