The Asia Cup 2025, scheduled to take place in the UAE from September 9 to 28, is already creating buzz with the potential for India and Pakistan to meet not just once, but three times. Despite recent political tension that caused the cancellation of their match in the World Championship of Legends, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has confirmed the tournament schedule—featuring a guaranteed group-stage clash and possible rematches in the Super 4 and final.
Group Stage Showdown Set for September 14
India has been placed in Group A alongside Pakistan, UAE, and Oman. Rohit Sharma’s men will kick off their campaign against the UAE on September 10, followed by the marquee clash with Pakistan on September 14, and their final group match against Oman on September 19.
“The excitement is real—this could be a rare triple treat for fans,” one cricket analyst noted, referring to the possibility of multiple high-octane India-Pakistan fixtures.
Path to a Possible Hat-trick of Clashes
If India and Pakistan win against the UAE and Oman, both are likely to qualify for the Super 4 stage, where they will meet again, tentatively on September 21. The top two teams from that round will then proceed to the final, which is scheduled for September 28. Should both sides maintain their form, a third clash could be in the cards.
“This Asia Cup might be historic,” said a senior BCCI official. “Three Indo-Pak games in one tournament—when has that ever happened?”
Last Encounter and Current Stakes
The most recent meeting between the two sides was during the 2024 T20 World Cup, where India edged out Pakistan by 6 runs. India went on to lift the ICC trophy, ending an 11-year drought. Pakistan, meanwhile, failed to progress beyond the group stage.
With both teams aiming to assert their dominance and fans worldwide eagerly awaiting, the Asia Cup 2025 promises thrilling cricket and intense rivalry on the global stage.
