Craig Ervine Ruled Out of Sri Lanka ODI Series

Zimbabwe Skipper Suffers Injury Setback

Zimbabwe’s captain, Craig Ervine, has been ruled out of the ongoing ODI series against Sri Lanka after picking up a calf injury just a day before the series opener at Harare Sports Club. In his absence, seasoned all-rounder Sean Williams will take charge of the team.

The injury occurred on Thursday, and medical scans later confirmed that Ervine suffered a Grade II strain in his left calf and a chronic Grade I strain in his right calf.

“𝑰𝒕’𝒔 𝒂 𝒕𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉 𝒃𝒍𝒐𝒘 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒁𝒊𝒎𝒃𝒂𝒃𝒘𝒆, 𝒆𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚 𝒍𝒐𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒏 𝒆𝒙𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆𝒅 𝒄𝒂𝒎𝒑𝒂𝒊𝒈𝒏𝒆𝒓 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝑬𝒓𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝒓𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒃𝒆𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒂 𝒃𝒊𝒈 𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒔,” 𝒂 𝒕𝒆𝒂𝒎 𝒔𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒄𝒆 𝒔𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒅.

Experienced Batter Misses Out

At 40, Ervine remains a vital part of Zimbabwe’s batting unit. Over the past few years, he has faced several injury setbacks, though his most recent absence earlier this year came for a personal reason — to be with his wife for the birth of their child. He last featured in ODIs during Zimbabwe’s home series against Ireland.

Williams, who had also been sidelined during that Test due to a back issue, made his return alongside Ervine during the Bangladesh Test series in April-May.

Brendan Taylor’s Comeback

While Ervine’s absence is a setback, Zimbabwe fans will be excited to see the return of Brendan Taylor. The star batter, who faced a three-year ban due to corruption-related offenses, is back in international cricket and has been included in the ODI squad.

“𝑻𝒂𝒚𝒍𝒐𝒓’𝒔 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒃𝒂𝒄𝒌 𝒊𝒔 𝒂 𝒎𝒂𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒃𝒐𝒐𝒔𝒕 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒁𝒊𝒎𝒃𝒂𝒃𝒘𝒆 𝒄𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒌𝒆𝒕 — 𝒉𝒆’𝒔 𝒂𝒍𝒘𝒂𝒚𝒔 𝒃𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝒂 𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉-𝒘𝒊𝒏𝒏𝒆𝒓 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒎𝒂𝒕,” 𝒂 𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒎𝒆𝒓 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒆𝒓 𝒏𝒐𝒕𝒆𝒅.

Taylor has been one of Zimbabwe’s finest limited-overs batters, having scored 11 centuries in 203 ODI innings.

Ervine’s ODI Record

In his 15-year international career, Ervine has represented Zimbabwe in 128 ODIs, amassing 3,600 runs at an average of 33.02. His tally includes four centuries and 23 fifties, with his career-best knock of 130 not out against New Zealand in Harare back in 2015.
