Alisson

Alisson Becker once again saw his team lose in a penalty shootout. The Brazilian goalkeeper has not won a penalty shootout since the FA Cup final against Chelsea in 2022. Despite being one of the best goalkeepers in the world, Alisson will be a bit behind in this nerve-wracking battle.

In the Champions League round of sixteen match, however, Liverpool’s two stars Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones also have a lot of responsibility. Both failed to score. Liverpool’s exit was confirmed after losing 4-1 on the tiebreaker at home.

However, Alisson Becker set a new record in the history of the Champions League on the day of the team’s exit. He saved 16 shots in two legs. Which is a record at the highest level of European club football. There is no precedent for more shots being saved in two legs in the knockout phase schedule, excluding penalty shootouts.

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer saved the same number of shots. The German goalkeeper saved 16 shots over the two legs of the quarter-final against Real Madrid in the 2016-17 season.

Despite playing well in both legs, Alisson could not take Liverpool to the quarter-finals. Gianluigi Donnarumma became the hero in the penalty shootout. In the tie-breaker, Vitinia, Gonzalo Ramos, Dembele and Desierto Due took shots for PSG. And Donnarumma single-handedly stopped Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones. The Parisians secured their place in the quarter-finals with a 4-1 win in the tie-breaker.
