Ayuso Takes Victory at Tirreno-Adriatico, Pidcock in Sixth Place

In Sunday’s Tirreno-Adriatico, Spain’s Juan Ayuso emerged victorious, while Tom Pidcock of Great Britain placed sixth overall.

Ayuso, a 22-year-old rider for UAE Team Emirates, had taken the lead overall on Saturday after defeating Pidcock in stage six.

After stage seven, Ayuso was 35 seconds ahead of Filippo Ganna of Ineos Grenadiers in second place, and Antonio Tiberi of Bahrain Victorious was one second behind in third.

In a highly competitive sprint finish, Italian rider Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek) just defeated Irish rider Sam Bennett to win Sunday’s 147km final stage from Porto Potenza Picena to San Benedetto del Tronto.

In other news, Matteo Jorgenson maintained his Paris-Nice title after placing second to Magnus, another American.

Meanwhile, Matteo Jorgenson kept his Paris-Nice title after finishing second behind fellow American Magnus Sheffield in the final stage.

Jorgenson, who rides for Visma-Lease A Bike, won the overall race by one minute and 15 seconds. Germany’s Florian Lipowitz finished second, and Thymen Arensman from the Netherlands was third, 43 seconds behind.

At the Trofeo Alfredo Binda race, Italian rider Elisa Balsamo won for the third time in a sprint finish.

She raced for Lidl-Trek and finished in four hours and 19 minutes, just ahead of Hungary’s Blanka Vas. British 18-year-old Cat Ferguson, riding for Movistar, came third in her first women’s world tour race.

Marianne Vos finished fourth in a tough competition that also included British Olympic medallist Lizzie Deignan, who is Balsamo’s teammate at Lidl-Trek.
