Indian ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer suffered a severe injury during the third and final ODI against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday, October 25. While taking a spectacular running catch near third man to dismiss Alex Carey, Iyer landed awkwardly and sustained a rib cage injury. He was immediately rushed to a local hospital for urgent medical attention.

Iyer’s Internal Bleeding was Detected, Under Close Observation

Medical reports have now confirmed that Iyer experienced internal bleeding due to a laceration injury to his spleen. He has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and is expected to remain under close observation for five to seven days. The BCCI Medical Team, in coordination with specialists in both Sydney and India, is closely monitoring his progress.

Iyer scored 72 runs in two innings during the three-match series, including a half-century in the second ODI at Adelaide. While his immediate recovery is the priority, the source added that it is too early to predict when he will return to competitive cricket.
