Indian cricket star Virat Kohli endured consecutive ODI ducks against Australia for the first time in his remarkable career, and once again, his wife Anushka Sharma has become the target of online trolling. Despite years of facing similar criticism, the Bollywood actor continues to be unfairly blamed whenever Kohli struggles on the field.
Since the couple made their relationship public and tied the knot in 2017, sections of social media have repeatedly dragged Anushka into cricket-related discussions. Following Kohli’s recent dismissals, the pattern resurfaced, with trolls holding her responsible for his poor form.
Several online posts accused her of being a “distraction,” with one caption reading, “I blame Anushka Sharma for his failure.” Another troll even wrote, “Virat Kohli is proof that choosing the wrong partner can ruin a career.” In an appalling instance, one user went as far as wishing harm upon her, saying, “If God is real, she died today in London.”
Fans Defend Anushka Sharma Against Misogynistic Comments
In response, many social media users and fans rallied behind Anushka, condemning the sexist mindset that continues to plague sports fandom.
One Threads user wrote, “It’s cute how men’s fragile egos need a woman to blame every time their favorite player has a bad day.” Another fan pointed out how long this pattern has persisted, saying, “That girl has been getting trolled since their dating era. These people just want to blame others for the poor performance of their favs.”
An X user also called out the toxic fan culture, stating, “Shame on Kohli fans for dragging his wife Anushka Sharma after his second consecutive duck.”
Despite the online negativity, many continue to praise Anushka for her grace under pressure and unwavering support for Kohli throughout his highs and lows.
