Big Claim by Ex-India Batter: ‘India Won’t Miss Rohit if Yashasvi & Shubman Open’

Aakash

Former India opener Aakash Chopra believes that young sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal is destined to become an all-format regular for India soon. The southpaw recently strengthened his Test credentials with a stunning 175-run knock off 258 balls in the ongoing second Test against the West Indies in New Delhi. Despite his red-ball heroics, Yashasvi’s white-ball opportunities have been limited — having played just one ODI and 23 T20Is so far.

Yashasvi Set to Become an All-Format Regular, Says Aakash Chopra

Sharing his thoughts on his YouTube channel, Aakash expressed confidence that it’s only a matter of time before Yashasvi cements his place across formats. He also suggested that once Yashasvi starts opening in ODIs alongside skipper Shubman Gill, Indian fans might not even miss Rohit Sharma.

“𝑰 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒌 𝒊𝒕’𝒔 𝒐𝒏𝒍𝒚 𝒂 𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆. 𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒅 𝒀𝒂𝒔𝒉𝒂𝒔𝒗𝒊 𝑱𝒂𝒊𝒔𝒘𝒂𝒍 𝒃𝒆𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒃𝒍𝒐𝒐𝒅𝒆𝒅 𝒊𝒏 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒔 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒃𝒚 𝒐𝒏𝒆. 𝑯𝒆 𝒉𝒂𝒔 𝒂𝒍𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒚 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒆𝒅 𝑻20𝑰𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒔𝒄𝒐𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝒂 𝒉𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝒂𝒔 𝒘𝒆𝒍𝒍. 𝑯𝒆 𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒎𝒔 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒍𝒚 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑰𝑷𝑳 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒂𝒍𝒔𝒐 𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑻20 𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅 𝑪𝒖𝒑 𝒔𝒒𝒖𝒂𝒅,” 𝒔𝒂𝒊𝒅 𝑪𝒉𝒐𝒑𝒓𝒂.

Aakash further added that while Shubman Gill currently holds the edge due to his leadership role, Yashasvi’s talent and temperament make him a strong contender for a permanent ODI spot.

“𝑰𝒇 𝒀𝒂𝒔𝒉𝒂𝒔𝒗𝒊 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑺𝒉𝒖𝒃𝒎𝒂𝒏 𝑮𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒐𝒑𝒆𝒏 𝒊𝒏 𝑶𝑫𝑰𝒔, 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒎𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏 𝒎𝒊𝒔𝒔 𝑹𝒐𝒉𝒊𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒏,” 𝑪𝒉𝒐𝒑𝒓𝒂 𝒓𝒆𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒌𝒆𝒅.

The discussion comes at a crucial juncture as Rohit Sharma, who has already retired from Tests and T20Is, was recently removed from ODI captaincy. Both Rohit and Yashasvi are part of India’s squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia, beginning October 19.

“His Best IPL Season Is Yet to Come” – Aakash Chopra

Chopra also predicted that Yashasvi’s breakout season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) is yet to come. The Rajasthan Royals opener, known for his aggressive stroke play, could soon deliver a record-breaking campaign in the league.

“𝑰𝒏 𝑻20 𝒄𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒌𝒆𝒕, 𝑰 𝒇𝒆𝒆𝒍 𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒃𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝑰𝑷𝑳 𝒔𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒐𝒏 𝒉𝒂𝒔 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒚𝒆𝒕. 𝑨 750 𝒕𝒐 800-𝒓𝒖𝒏 𝑰𝑷𝑳 𝒔𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒐𝒏 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒅𝒆𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒚 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒉𝒊𝒎 𝒃𝒆𝒄𝒂𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝒉𝒆 𝒊𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒅 𝒐𝒇 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒆𝒓. 𝑯𝒊𝒔 𝒉𝒖𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒓 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒌𝒆-𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒎𝒂𝒈𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍,” 𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒂𝒊𝒅.

Looking ahead, Chopra even suggested that Yashasvi could push Gill down to No. 3 in T20 cricket after the 2026 T20 World Cup, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

“𝑾𝒉𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒈𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒀𝒂𝒔𝒉𝒂𝒔𝒗𝒊 𝒂 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆, 𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒃 𝒊𝒕, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒉𝒆 𝒅𝒐𝒆𝒔, 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒘𝒐𝒏’𝒕 𝒎𝒊𝒔𝒔 𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒔. 𝑩𝒚 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒏𝒆𝒙𝒕 𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅 𝑪𝒖𝒑, 𝒉𝒆’𝒍𝒍 𝒃𝒆 𝒂𝒏 𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒍 𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑿𝑰,” 𝑪𝒉𝒐𝒑𝒓𝒂 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒄𝒍𝒖𝒅𝒆𝒅.
