Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer executed a breathtaking catch to dismiss Alex Carey during the third ODI between Australia and India at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday, October 25. The Indian batter sprinted back from backward point, timed his jump perfectly, and clutched the ball, but landed awkwardly and immediately felt discomfort. He had to leave the field with the team physio.

“The catch was crucial, but the landing took a toll on me. I just need some time to recover,” Shreyas Iyer said as he hobbled off the field.

Carey’s Dismissal Breaks Crucial Partnership

Harshit Rana provided the perfect delivery, a short-of-a-length ball, which Carey attempted to hit down the ground. Instead, the ball looped high towards the backward point and third man. Shreyas Iyer sprinted full speed, tracking the ball, and completed a remarkable catch that broke the Carey-Renshaw partnership.

Even after receiving immediate attention from the physio, Shreyas Iyer remained in visible pain, clutching his abdominal region as he left the field. His participation in India’s upcoming batting innings remains uncertain.

Match Context and Series Update

Following the drinks break, Harshit Rana struck again, picking up his second wicket by inducing an edge from Mitchell Owen, who departed for just one run off four balls. Australia had already sealed the ODI series by winning the first two matches convincingly—by seven wickets and two wickets, respectively.

India is now prepared to regroup ahead of the five-match T20I series starting Wednesday, October 29.
