Former India selector Saba Karim said the upcoming England tour will be a test for new captain Shubman Gill, as his success as captain depends on his batting performance. In his Test career, Gill has scored just 1,893 runs in 32 Tests with four centuries at an average of less than 32.

Saba Karim made a big statement about Shubman Gill

India started a new era in Test cricket by appointing Gill as captain after the retirement of veterans like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravichandran Ashwin.

“𝑻𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒊𝒔 𝒂 𝒕𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒉𝒊𝒎. 𝑰 𝒂𝒎 𝒔𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒉𝒆 𝒊𝒔 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒚 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒊𝒕. 𝑯𝒆 𝒉𝒂𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒎 𝒘𝒆𝒍𝒍 𝒊𝒏 𝒃𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈. 𝑰𝒇 𝒉𝒆 𝒊𝒔 𝒔𝒖𝒄𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒇𝒖𝒍 𝒊𝒏 𝒅𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒔𝒐, 𝒊𝒕 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒂𝒍𝒔𝒐 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒂 𝒑𝒐𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒂𝒄𝒕 𝒐𝒏 𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒄𝒂𝒑𝒕𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒚.”

Saba Karim said during the Fit India Sunday on Cycle program on Sunday.

Former wicketkeeper-batsman Saba is confident that India’s young team will perform well in England and achieve favorable results. He said,

“𝑰 𝒆𝒙𝒑𝒆𝒄𝒕 𝒈𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒖𝒍𝒕𝒔 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒈 𝑰𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒂𝒏 𝒕𝒆𝒂𝒎. 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒔 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒃𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒑𝒆𝒕𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆,𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑰 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒌 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑰𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒂𝒏 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒚 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒊𝒕.”

Recently, veteran Test player Cheteshwar Pujara said that captaining India in the difficult conditions of England would be a challenge for a young player like Gill. Pujara said that this would also be a big opportunity for Gill. If he achieves success as a captain on this tour, it will boost his confidence a lot.

Meanwhile, Saba Karim also praised batsman Karun Nair, who scored a double century against England Lions on Saturday. He said,

“𝑲𝒂𝒓𝒖𝒏 (𝑵𝒂𝒊𝒓) 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒆𝒅 𝒘𝒆𝒍𝒍, 𝒏𝒐𝒘 𝒉𝒆 𝒉𝒂𝒔 𝒆𝒙𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆. 𝑺𝒂𝒊 𝒉𝒂𝒔 𝒈𝒓𝒐𝒘𝒏 𝒊𝒏 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒂𝒔 𝒂𝒏 𝒂𝒍𝒍-𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒎𝒂𝒕 𝒄𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒌𝒆𝒕𝒆𝒓. 𝑵𝒐𝒘 𝒉𝒆 𝒊𝒔 𝒈𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒆𝒙𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆, 𝑰 𝒂𝒎 𝒆𝒙𝒄𝒊𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒔𝒆𝒆 𝒉𝒐𝒘 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒑𝒂𝒊𝒓 𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒎𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝑬𝒏𝒈𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒅.”
