The BCCI announced the Indian team and the new Test captain for the England tour on Saturday, May 24. Shubman Gill will be seen representing India in the longest format of the game. The chief selector of the Indian men’s team also made a big revelation about Virat Kohli’s retirement during the press conference.

Agarkar said that former captain Virat Kohli had met him in April and told him about his decision to retire from Tests. It is worth noting that Kohli announced his retirement from Tests on May 12 before the five-Test series against England starting on June 20.

Virat scored 9230 Test runs for India

Virat Kohli played 123 Test matches for India, in which he scored 9230 runs at an average of 46.85 and a strike rate of 55.58. He has scored 31 half-centuries, 30 centuries and 7 double centuries in Tests. Virat Kohli is the highest run-scorer as an Indian Test captain. He scored 5864 runs in 113 innings. He is also the fourth highest run-scorer for India in this format.
