Yuzvendra Chahal Breaks Silence on Viral Divorce T-Shirt

Yuzvendra Chahal explains ‘Sugar Daddy’ T-shirt at divorce

Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has finally opened up about the much-talked-about T-shirt he wore during his divorce hearing with Dhanashree Verma. The 35-year-old cricketer, who officially parted ways with Dhanashree on March 20, 2025, sported a T-shirt that read “Be Your Own Sugar Daddy”, catching the attention of fans and media alike.

During a recent appearance on the Figuring Out podcast hosted by Raj Shamani, Chahal clarified his motives behind wearing the viral tee. He emphasized that it wasn’t meant to cause a scene but was instead a silent response to events leading up to the hearing.

“𝑰 𝒅𝒊𝒅𝒏’𝒕 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒅𝒐 𝒂𝒏𝒚 𝒅𝒓𝒂𝒎𝒂. 𝑰 𝒋𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒈𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒎𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒂𝒈𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑻-𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒓𝒕,” 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒉𝒂𝒍 𝒆𝒙𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒅. “𝑺𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒅 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒔𝒊𝒅𝒆, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒂𝒕 𝒇𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕, 𝑰 𝒍𝒆𝒕 𝒊𝒕 𝒈𝒐. 𝑩𝒖𝒕 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒊𝒕 𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒅 𝒂𝒈𝒂𝒊𝒏, 𝑰 𝒇𝒆𝒍𝒕, ‘𝑬𝒏𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉 𝒊𝒔 𝒆𝒏𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉.’”

The former couple, who tied the knot in December 2020 after bonding over a shared interest in dance during the pandemic, decided to go their separate ways after nearly four years of marriage.

Chahal on Alimony and County Cricket Comeback

In the same conversation, Chahal briefly addressed the alimony settlement, suggesting it was a fair arrangement. Though he refrained from revealing the exact amount, he hinted that he managed a reasonable outcome.

“𝑳𝒆𝒕’𝒔 𝒋𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒔𝒂𝒚 𝑰 𝒔𝒊𝒈𝒏𝒆𝒅 𝒂 𝒈𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝒅𝒆𝒂𝒍,” 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒉𝒂𝒍 𝒂𝒅𝒅𝒆𝒅 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒂 𝒔𝒎𝒊𝒍𝒆.

Meanwhile, Chahal continues to showcase his bowling skills on the domestic circuit. Despite being out of India’s national squad since August 2023, he remains active in the Indian Premier League and has taken up a stint with Northamptonshire in the County Championship Division Two.

The Haryana-born spinner is hoping that his performances in England could reignite his chances for an international comeback, as he remains one of the most skillful wrist-spinners in India’s cricketing landscape.
