Yuzvendra Chahal opens up on divorce, mental health battle

Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal recently shared a deeply emotional account of his mental health battle following cheating allegations that surfaced after his divorce from Dhanashree Verma. In a candid conversation on Figuring Out with Raj Shamani, Chahal revealed how the intense scrutiny and false accusations had a severe impact on his emotional well-being and sleep.

“𝑰 𝒉𝒂𝒅 𝒔𝒖𝒊𝒄𝒊𝒅𝒂𝒍 𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒔. 𝑰 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒕𝒊𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝒐𝒇 𝒎𝒚 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆, 𝑰 𝒄𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒅 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒔. 𝑰 𝒐𝒏𝒍𝒚 𝒔𝒍𝒆𝒑𝒕 𝒕𝒘𝒐 𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒔 𝒂 𝒅𝒂𝒚 — 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒘𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒐𝒏 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒂 𝒎𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒉,” 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒉𝒂𝒍 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒇𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒆𝒅, 𝒉𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒍 𝒕𝒐𝒍𝒍 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒖𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒐𝒐𝒌 𝒐𝒏 𝒉𝒊𝒎.

Chahal Denies Allegations, Blames Media for Misleading Narrative

The 35-year-old cricketer strongly denied all rumors of infidelity, asserting that he has never been unfaithful and has always been a loyal partner. Chahal claimed that certain media outlets fabricated stories to generate traffic, causing unnecessary damage to his image.

“𝑰 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒊𝒏 𝒎𝒚 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆. 𝑰 𝒂𝒎 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒅 𝒐𝒇 𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒐𝒏. 𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝒘𝒐𝒏’𝒕 𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒅 𝒂𝒏𝒚𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒍𝒐𝒚𝒂𝒍 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒏 𝒎𝒆,” 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒉𝒂𝒍 𝒔𝒂𝒊𝒅. “𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒆𝒅𝒊𝒂 𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒚𝒆𝒅 𝒎𝒆 𝒘𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒈𝒍𝒚. 𝑷𝒆𝒐𝒑𝒍𝒆 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝒅𝒊𝒅𝒏’𝒕 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘 𝒂𝒏𝒚𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒃𝒍𝒂𝒎𝒆𝒅 𝒎𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒇𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒔, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒂𝒇𝒇𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒔 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈.”

Raised to Respect Women, Hurt by Public Judgment

Emphasizing his upbringing, Chahal explained that growing up with two sisters helped him learn the value of respecting women. He stressed that random public speculations based on baseless gossip had deeply hurt him.

“Because I grew up with sisters, I know how to respect women,” he said. “It’s not okay for people to write anything just to get views — linking my name with others when they know nothing.”

Chahal and Dhanashree were married in December 2020 and finalized their divorce on March 20, 2025. Since August 2023, Chahal has not featured in the Indian national squad, with rising competition further sidelining him.
