Elation and emotion filled the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai after India pulled off a record-breaking run chase against Australia to reach the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 final. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and star batter Jemimah Rodrigues couldn’t hold back their tears, overwhelmed by the magnitude of the moment.

Harmanpreet and Jemimah’s 167-run stand powers India to glory

The pair’s 167-run partnership off 156 balls for the third wicket proved to be the turning point of the match, helping India script one of their most remarkable victories in Women’s World Cup history. As Amanjot Kaur struck the winning boundary through the backward point, the Indian dugout erupted in unison. Jemimah fell to her knees in tears, removing her helmet to take in the historic moment.

“𝑰𝒕 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒑𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒆𝒎𝒐𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 — 𝒚𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒅 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒌, 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒃𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒌𝒔, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒅𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒎𝒔 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒓𝒖𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒎𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕,” 𝒂 𝒗𝒊𝒔𝒊𝒃𝒍𝒚 𝒆𝒎𝒐𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝑱𝒆𝒎𝒊𝒎𝒂𝒉 𝒔𝒂𝒊𝒅 𝒂𝒇𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉.

Meanwhile, Harmanpreet Kaur, overcome with emotion, was seen in tears near the dugout as head coach Amol Muzumdar tried to console her. Cameras captured her wiping her eyes, marking one of the rare occasions where the Indian captain openly expressed her emotions on the field.

Records tumble as India book their spot in the final

Thursday’s victory wasn’t just about emotion — it was also about breaking records. The 167-run stand between Harmanpreet and Jemimah became India’s highest-ever partnership against Australia in any Women’s World Cup edition, surpassing Mithali Raj and Punam Raut’s memorable stand from 2017.

“𝑻𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒕𝒆𝒂𝒎 𝒉𝒂𝒔 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒘𝒏 𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒓𝒆𝒅𝒊𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒆𝒓. 𝑻𝒐 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒔𝒆 𝒂 𝒕𝒂𝒓𝒈𝒆𝒕 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒂𝒈𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒕 𝑨𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒂 𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒂𝒌𝒔 𝒗𝒐𝒍𝒖𝒎𝒆𝒔 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒊𝒓 𝒃𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒆𝒇,” 𝒔𝒂𝒊𝒅 𝒄𝒐𝒂𝒄𝒉 𝑴𝒖𝒛𝒖𝒎𝒅𝒂𝒓 𝒑𝒐𝒔𝒕-𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉.

India will now face South Africa in the grand finale at the same venue on Sunday, November 2, where a new Women’s World Cup champion will be crowned.
