Women’s World Cup 2025: South Africa Women Outclass Pakistan in Match 22

Pakistan

South Africa Women extended their sensational run in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, thrashing Pakistan Women by 150 runs (DLS method) in Match 22 at Colombo. The Proteas’ commanding all-round performance not only sealed their fifth consecutive win but also knocked Pakistan out of semifinal contention, taking South Africa to the top of the table.

Wolvaardt, Luus, and Kapp Lead Batting Charge

In a rain-curtailed game reduced to 40 overs per side, South Africa posted a mammoth 312/9, with captain Laura Wolvaardt anchoring the innings through a classy 90 off 82 balls. Despite losing opener Tazmin Brits early, she combined with Sune Luus (61) in a vital 118-run partnership that steadied the innings.

“𝑰𝒕’𝒔 𝒂𝒍𝒘𝒂𝒚𝒔 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒃𝒖𝒊𝒍𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒔𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒕𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒍𝒚. 𝑾𝒆 𝒌𝒏𝒆𝒘 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝒘𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒌𝒚, 𝒔𝒐 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒚𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒑𝒐𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒌𝒆𝒚,” 𝑾𝒐𝒍𝒗𝒂𝒂𝒓𝒅𝒕 𝒔𝒂𝒊𝒅 𝒂𝒇𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉.

The momentum shifted gears when Marizanne Kapp smashed 68 off 43 balls, while Nadine de Klerk’s explosive 41 off 16 balls, featuring four sixes, propelled South Africa past the 300-run mark — the highest total of the tournament so far.

Kapp Destroys Pakistan’s Top Order

Pakistan’s chase never gained momentum as frequent rain interruptions forced multiple DLS revisions, with the final target set at 234 in 20 overs. Kapp struck early and hard, removing Omaima Sohail, Sidra Amin, and Aliya Riaz in a fiery opening spell that left Pakistan reeling at 35/4 inside 10 overs.

“𝑰 𝒋𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒌𝒆𝒆𝒑 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒔 𝒔𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒆 — 𝒉𝒊𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒓𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒚 𝒂𝒈𝒈𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒗𝒆,” 𝑲𝒂𝒑𝒑 𝒔𝒂𝒊𝒅, 𝒓𝒆𝒇𝒍𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒐𝒏 𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉-𝒘𝒊𝒏𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒆𝒇𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒕.

She finished with exceptional figures of 3/20, while her all-round brilliance earned her the Player of the Match award. Pakistan eventually stumbled to 83/7, falling well short of the revised target.

Highlights and Next Fixtures

Apart from Kapp’s heroics, Nadine de Klerk’s cameo and Sune Luus’s fluent knock stood out as South Africa asserted their dominance once again. The match also marked a significant milestone for the team — five consecutive wins, a feat that cements their status as tournament favourites.

South Africa will next take on Australia Women in Indore in their final group-stage fixture, aiming to maintain their unbeaten streak ahead of the semifinals. Meanwhile, Pakistan will face Sri Lanka in their final match, hoping to end their campaign on a positive note.
