Wilfried Nancy’s brief stint at Celtic came to a shocking end just 33 days after joining the Scottish champions. The French coach signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the club on December 4, following his MLS season with the Columbus Crew, but was unable to turn the tide for the struggling Hoops.
Celtic’s Historic Collapse Under Nancy
Celtic suffered a 3-1 defeat to Rangers on Saturday, marking their sixth loss in eight games. Nancy now holds the unwanted record of being the fastest manager ever to be sacked in Celtic’s history.
Before Nancy’s arrival, interim manager Martin O’Neill had led Celtic to seven wins in eight matches. However, that momentum collapsed quickly. Nancy became the first Celtic boss to lose his opening two games in charge, including both Premier League Cup finals. This also marks the first time Celtic have lost four consecutive games since 1978.

Struggles Beyond the Pitch
Even after brief successes with back-to-back league wins against Aberdeen and Livingston, the club decided to make sweeping changes. In addition to parting ways with Nancy, Celtic also removed Paul Tisdale from his role as head of football operations, a position he had held since October 2024.

Celtic now faces a critical period as they search for a new manager to revive the club’s performance in both domestic and cup competitions.
