WBBL and BBL 2025-26 Drafts: Key Info in Brief

The upcoming WBBL and BBL drafts will be held on Thursday, June 19, with WBBL starting at 4pm AEST, followed immediately by the BBL. Teams will go through four rounds of selection based on player categories: Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze. The draft order was decided via a weighted lottery in April, with the Sydney Sixers getting the first pick in WBBL and Brisbane Heat leading the BBL draft.

How It Works and Notable Players

Each team must draft at least two overseas players in addition to pre-signed ones. Clubs can also retain one player from last season. Over 600 international players have registered interest, including Shaheen Afridi, Shadab Khan, Jofra Archer, Kane Williamson, and Jemimah Rodrigues. Salary bands range from $40K to $110K in WBBL and up to $420K in BBL, based on player category and availability.

Season Timeline and Expectations

The WBBL will run from late October to early December, while the BBL starts mid-December and ends in late January. Despite overlaps with ILT20 and SA20, Cricket Australia remains hopeful that more players will be available throughout the season, especially during the finals.
