Virat Kohli wants to retire from Test cricket, BCCI said this in response

Virat Kohli Plans Test Retirement? BCCI Responds to Shocking Rumors

Indian players were seen representing their franchises in the 18th season of IPL. The tournament has been suspended for a week due to tension between India and Pakistan. BCCI will announce the schedule of the remaining matches depending on the situation. Team India is scheduled to tour England from June 20, where they will play a five-match Test series.

Meanwhile, Indian veteran batsman Virat Kohli has decided to quit Test cricket. He has informed the BCCI about this. This means that the chances of Virat being a part of the England tour are very low.

BCCI official gave information

According to reports, BCCI has urged Virat Kohli to reconsider his decision to retire from Test cricket. According to the Indian Express report, a BCCI official said,

Remember that Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Test cricket on 7 May 2025. Rohit played 67 matches for India in his Test career, scoring 4301 runs at an average of 40.57, including 12 centuries and 18 half-centuries. Rohit and Virat said goodbye to the shortest format of the game after India became champions in the T20 World Cup 2024. If Virat remains firm on quitting Test cricket, both players will now be seen representing India only in ODIS.

He has played 123 test matches for India.

Virat Kohli’s performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia was disappointing, so he was greatly criticised. This could also be the reason for Virat’s decision, as the selectors now want to show more confidence in young players. 36-year-old Kohli has played 123 Test matches for India and scored 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85. But in the last five years, his average has dropped, and he has managed to score only 1,990 runs with three centuries in 37 matches.
