Track Champions League Canceled After Four Years

Track Champions League

The Track Champions League, launched in 2021, has been discontinued after just four years. The event was created to attract new fans to track cycling with light shows, music, and a faster format. It featured top endurance and sprint cyclists competing in multiple rounds across various European cities. However, in 2024, only three cities hosted events: Paris, Apeldoorn (two events), and London (two events).

The International Cycling Union (UCI) and its media partner Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) announced they would instead focus on reviving the Track Nations Cup and transforming it into the Track World Cup. UCI President David Lappartient stated that they would focus on coverage of the UCI Track World Cup over the next three years, with the goal of growing track cycling in the lead-up to and beyond the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

Previously a three-round event, the Track Nations Cup only had one round this year, held in Konya, Turkey. It will now be rebranded as the Track World Cup, with three rounds and a focus on Olympic events and the elimination race. The series will also serve as part of the qualification for the World Championships and the Olympic Games.

The most recent Champions League event was held in London at Lee Valley VeloPark in December but had to be abandoned due to a crash involving Great Britain’s Katy Marchant, which caused a disruption in the crowd.
