Australia’s Tim David has been fined 10% of his match fee for violating Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the fifth T20I against West Indies on July 28 in St. Kitts.
The ICC confirmed that David was guilty of breaching Article 2.8, which pertains to “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match.”
Incident During Alzarri Joseph’s Over
The incident took place in the fifth over of Australia’s innings when a delivery from Alzarri Joseph drifted down the leg side. The umpire did not call it a wide, leading David to visibly express his displeasure. He extended both arms in protest and walked toward the umpire, continuing the gesture.
“𝑻𝒊𝒎 𝑫𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒅 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒅 𝒅𝒊𝒔𝒔𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒃𝒚 𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒆𝒕𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒂𝒓𝒎𝒔 𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒘𝒂𝒍𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒐𝒘𝒂𝒓𝒅𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒖𝒎𝒑𝒊𝒓𝒆,” 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑰𝑪𝑪 𝒔𝒂𝒊𝒅 𝒊𝒏 𝒊𝒕𝒔 𝒐𝒇𝒇𝒊𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒍 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕.
As a result of the offense, one demerit point has also been added to David’s disciplinary record. This marks his first offence in the past 24 months.
Sanction Accepted Without Formal Hearing
David accepted the proposed sanction from Reon King, a member of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees. Since he acknowledged the offense, there was no need for a formal hearing.
The charge was laid by on-field umpires Zahid Bassarath and Leslie Reifer, with third umpire Deighton Buttler and fourth umpire Gregory Brathwaite also involved in the process.
“𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒏𝒐 𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒎𝒂𝒍 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒓𝒆𝒒𝒖𝒊𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝒂𝒔 𝑫𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒅 𝒂𝒅𝒎𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒐𝒇𝒇𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒂𝒄𝒄𝒆𝒑𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒑𝒆𝒏𝒂𝒍𝒕𝒚,” 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑰𝑪𝑪 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒇𝒊𝒓𝒎𝒆𝒅.
What Level 1 Breaches Involve
Under ICC regulations, Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum penalty of 50% of the match fee, along with one or two demerit points.
